Record a death
Record the date and cause of a patient's death and who certified it, so they stop getting reminders and cannot be booked.
- Where
- Practice portal
- Who can do this
- Doctor, Midwife, Nurse and Staff
When a patient dies, record it on their chart. The chart is kept as it is. They stop getting appointment reminders, and nobody can book them a new appointment.
Steps
- Open the patient's chart.
- Choose Record a death.
- Fill in Day of death. Add Cause of death, in words and Certified by if you have them.
- Choose Record the death.
What to expect
The chart shows Deceased on the day, with the cause and who certified it. The patient stays in search, and their visits, notes and bills stay where they were.
An appointment booked before the death is not cancelled for you. Cancel it on Appointments.
To add the cause or the certifier later, or to correct the day, choose Correct the record of the death and record it again.
Only the day is needed. Recording a death needs the same access as writing a note.
