For a small Nigerian hospital, compare the complete first-year bill and the annual renewal before choosing software. One published example is 350,000 naira for setup and the first year, followed by 240,000 naira a year. That is the advertised eClinicPlus Starter plan described below, not a Nigerian market average or a RizCare price.

The amount your practice needs also depends on devices, training, support and the work of preparing patient records. A low subscription figure cannot answer those questions on its own.

What public price pages actually show

We read these pages on 8 September 2026. They are advertised examples and published estimates, not evidence of what hospitals paid. Confirm the current scope and terms in writing.

  • eClinicPlus lists Starter at 350,000 naira for setup plus the first year, with renewal at 240,000 naira a year and a maximum of 1,500 patients. Standard is 600,000 naira for setup plus the first year, then 360,000 naira a year, with a maximum of 4,500 patients. Setup is already bundled into those first-year figures.
  • MedSoftwares' Nigeria guide, dated 1 January 2025, gives a small-hospital software estimate of 300,000 to 600,000 naira. It describes a one-time purchase with no monthly subscription and lists hardware and implementation separately. This is a provider's published estimate, not an annual subscription tariff or an independent market survey.
  • AjirMed's pricing page asks readers to contact sales and explains setup and annual renewal without publishing monetary amounts. Obtain a facility-specific quotation rather than treating an editorial price range as its tariff.

These sources do not establish a national annual price band. In particular, a one-time purchase of 600,000 naira cannot become the ceiling of an annual subscription range. Ask whether tax, training, support and installation are included before comparing totals.

What Nigerian implementation research adds

A 2022 study at a public primary health centre in Lagos documents funding for equipment, connectivity problems and difficulty sustaining internet payments. It also reports downtime without an on-site IT support technician. This was one public facility, not a price survey of small private hospitals. It illustrates why equipment and ongoing support deserve separate budget lines.

A 2022 study across four Niger Delta states, including public, private and mission facilities, recommends investment in staff training, infrastructure installation and maintenance. It does not establish today's prices either. Our recommendation is to cost the people and arrangements needed to keep the records workflow usable, alongside the software fee.

The US Health IT Playbook provides a useful framework for separating software, implementation, training and support. Here it supports the budgeting method; the Nigerian sources provide the local evidence and examples.

Define the work before requesting a quote

For a practice with one to five doctors, write down the records work you need: registration, visits, nursing observations, consultation notes, prescriptions, external lab referrals, invoices and recorded cash or transfer payments. Add maternity or basic admissions if needed. Ask what each quoted package actually includes.

Establish whether charges depend on the practice, location, staff accounts, patient count or storage. Ask what happens when you add another receptionist or locum doctor. Record the commitment period, renewal basis, currency and notice for price changes. If the quote uses a foreign currency, agree how the naira amount payable will be determined.

Price onboarding and staff training separately

Setting up accounts and a service list is different from helping staff practise their work. Even when both are included in one fee, ask:

  • Who enters the service list and checks the charges?
  • How many staff and training sessions are included?
  • Will reception, nursing, doctors and billing each rehearse their tasks?
  • What arrangements cover shift workers and new staff?
  • Does an agreed on-site visit include travel and follow-up?

Allow staff time for practice without patients waiting. Read what decides whether staff use the electronic record before treating training as an optional extra.

Check devices, connectivity and record preparation

List the devices the hospital owns and who will use each. Test the intended tasks before buying replacements. Budget for the chargers, power arrangements, data and printing your chosen workflow needs; do not assume every deployment requires a server or a computer at every desk.

RizCare requires no on-site server. Its offline work depends on the device already holding the app, permitted records and valid offline access. Initial enrolment and access renewal require internet. Discuss those preparations and recovery arrangements when assessing the equipment budget.

For migration, separate active-patient details, useful history, unpaid balances and archived folders. Assign someone to select, enter and check each category. RizCare accepts existing folder numbers but has no historical EHR importer, so agree what will be entered manually and what remains in the existing records process. Our paper-to-digital guide helps set that boundary.

Ask what support and leaving the service involve

Agree the support channel, coverage hours and who handles device faults versus application problems. Ask what assistance is included and what attracts another charge.

Also ask how the practice can access and export its records if the subscription ends. Request a demonstration of recovery rather than assuming a downloaded file restores the application. RizCare's encrypted device export cannot be imported back into the app. Check that the proposed arrangements meet the practice's needs before committing.

Make a first-year and renewal worksheet

Our recommended worksheet has six lines. For each, record the amount, payment date, what is included and whether it recurs. Mark unanswered items "awaiting quote", not zero.

  • Software subscription or purchase, with the charging unit and limits.
  • Setup and onboarding, avoiding amounts already included in year one.
  • Training, agreed travel and follow-up.
  • Required devices, power, connectivity and printing.
  • Record preparation, entry and checking.
  • Support, maintenance and any agreed exit charges.

Show cash costs separately from staff hours. Underneath, write the renewal-year total and which assumptions could change it.

For an illustrative calculation using eClinicPlus Starter's published figures, three years at unchanged terms would be 350,000 plus 240,000 plus 240,000: 830,000 naira. That covers only the listed setup and subscription amounts. It excludes anything outside those amounts and does not guarantee future renewal prices.

Use the software demonstration questions to test the workflow behind a quote. For a RizCare demonstration and pricing discussion, bring your staff count, device list and records scope so the discussion can produce costs your practice can assess.
